Sarson Ka Saag - with detail photo and video recipe. Sarson ka Saag is prepared mostly during winter. It is prepared with mustard leaves along with the combination of other greens like spinach, radish leaves, fenugreek leaves, and coriander leaves.

Go green and stay healthy with this saag recipe done with mustard leaves, spinach leaves, radish leaves, fenugreek leaves, and coriander leaves with a touch of maize flour along with butter tempering.



Sarson ka saag is a popular vegetarian Punjabi dish. It is made from mustard greens ( sarson ) and spices such as green chilies, red chilies, ginger, and garlic. It is often served with Makki di roti usually done with maize flour.It can be topped with wither Makhan ( butter ) or more traditionally with ghee. Firstly, clean, wash and chop the all green and keep aside. Prefer mostly organic greens. Usually, this saag is served mostly with Makki ka roti Done with maize flour.

Cooking Greens Ingredients:

  • Mustard Leaves - 1 Bunch
  • Spinach ( Palak ) - 2 Bunches
  • Radish Leaves - 2 Radish
  • Fenugreek Leaves - 2 Bunches
  • Coriander Leaves - 1/4th Cup
  • Green chilies - 5
  • Garlic - 2 Tbsps.
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Salt - 1 Tsp.
  • Maize Flour - 2 1/2 Tbsps.
Cooking Sarson Ka Saag Ingredients:
  • Butter - 1 Cube
  • Oil - 3 Tbsps.
  • Onions - 1 Big
  • Ripe Red Chillies - 2
  • Curry Leaves
  • Ginger - 1 Tbsp.
  • Garlic - 1 Tbsp.
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tsp.
  • Tomatoes - 3
  • Salt - As Required
  • Water - 1/4th Cup
Preparation:
  • In a pan, add water along with salt.
  • Bring the water to boil, then add all the greens like mustard leaves, radish leaves, fenugreek leaves, spinach leaves, coriander leaves, green chilies, and garlic.
  • Bring to boil then mash the leaves.
  • Close and cook for about 5 minutes. Leaves some gap to escape the moisture from leaves.
  • Again open and mash, repeat the process till the green are completely mashed and cooked well.
  • Then add maize flour and mix well and remove.
  • In another pan add butter along with oil.
  • Let the butter melt then add onions, ripe red chilies and saute well.
  • When onion turns light brown color add curry leaves, ginger, and garlic.
  • Mix well and saute well till it releases aroma.
  • When it releases aroma, add tomatoes and saute well.
  • When tomatoes become soft remove and add to the greens along with water and mix well.
  • Close and cook for about 5 Minutes.
  • Serve hot with Makki di roti or even with plain rice or even with chapati
