Let's welcome the six tastes of life with the Ugadi Pachadi on this Palva Nama Samvastsaram on the Pratipada Tithi of Chaitra, Shukla paksha. On this day people woke up early and first clean the house then take a head bath, wear new clothes and decorate the house with mango leaves and offer prayers to god, and first taste the Ugadi Pachadi on this day. The custom behind taking the ritual shower is, on this day goddess Lakshmi will reside in oil and goddess Ganga will reside in water, by taking the bath with oil and water, people will get the blessings of both goddess Laksmi and Ganga. And they believe the whole year will be calm and happy when people celebrate the Ugadi Festival with customs and traditions.
Ugadi Story
Every festival has a story even the Ugadi had a story about how the Telugu new year had started. Am not an expert on the spiritual side, this was the story heard and learned from our elders. There was a demon named Somakasura, stole the Vedas from Lord Brahma and hide under the ocean. Lord Brahma asks help from Lord Vishnu in return of Vedas from Somakasura.Lord Vishnu in the form of "Macha Avatharam", which is one of the incarnations of Vishnu, fought with Somakasura, and killed him, and retain back the Vedas. He later handed over these Vedas to the Lord Brahma. And all this happened on the first day of Chaitra Masam.
