One can see basil plants outside many Indian households, in one decorated pot( Tulasi Kota) designed with "swathik" "Om" and colored with yellow. Holy basil is offered in the form of prasad to the god. Usually, we don't pluck the leaves from the holy basil plant. These leaves are taken from other plants which we usually use for cooking as it contains many medicinal benefits. We keep two different plants, one for doing pooja and the other for cooking purposes.
Basil leaves have many health benefits as it supports liver function and helps to detoxify the body. Basil leaves promote a healthy gut and diabetic management. Consumption of basil could also soothe a fever, headache, sore throat, cold, cough, and flu. Its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties help to manage stress and fight against depression.
For this recipe, I used fresh basil leaves and fresh coconut milk of the first extract. This recipe even can make with normal regular rice instead of basmati rice. Basmati rice is used only to look and for the smell. One can even skip the biryani masala ingredients if one wants only the taste and flavor of basil leaves but, adding those gives very aromatic and flavourful pulao.
