Malvani fish is a traditional dish originating from the malvan region of Maharashtra, India, known for its vibrant flavors and the use of seafood and locally available spices.

The malvani fish curry is usually prepared with fresh fish cooked in a spicy and tangy coconut-based gravy. Other common ingredients include coconut milk, tamarind or kokum, dried red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, garlic, ginger and turmeric.

Malvani fish curry is known for its bold and complex flavor. It balances the heat from spices like red chilies with the tanginess of tamarind and the richness of coconut milk. The blend of spices creates a perfect balance that enhances the taste of fish.

The malvani fish curry is typically prepared by first marinating the fish in a mixture of spices and then cooking it in the flavorful coconut-based gravy. The gravy is simmered until the flavors meld together and the fish is cooked to perfection. It is often served hot with steamed rice, roti, or the roti done with rice-flour.
