Amla Rice | Indian Gooseberry Recipe | Usirikaya Pulihora | Neelikai Rice Recipe | Special Desi Recipes


Amla, Amalaki or Indian Gooseberry or Neelikai or Usirikaya is a highly potent medicinal plant for its healing properties as it is loaded with vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorous, Carotene, Vitamin B, Protein and Fibre. The small green, pulpy, juicy fruit if taken regularly can improve immunity and boost metabolism.

This usually finds more in the market between October and November months. Amla holds a lot of great religious significance during the rituals in the Hindu month of Kartika Masam.

Amla is a powerhouse of antioxidants, consumption of this juice in any form can prevent the formation of cancer cells. Massaging the scalp with amla juice can reduce the hair fall and applying the amla oil can strengthen the follicles and prevent premature greying.

Ingredients

  • Amla - 6
  • Rice - 200g
  • Green Chilies - 6
  • Sesame Seeds - 2 Tbsps.
  • Garlic - 20 Cloves Or 1 garlic bulb
  • Salt - As Required
  • Chana Dal - 1 Tbsp.
  • Urad Dal - 1 Tbsp.
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 Tsp.
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp.
  • Curry Leaves
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tsp.
Preparation:
  • In a pan dry roast sesame seeds till splutter and keep aside.
  • Then blend half of sesame seeds, green chilies, garlic cloves, and salt.
  • Now mix this paste to the cooked rice and keep aside.
  • Now in another pan add oil, then add chana and urad dal and mix well.
  • Saute well till it releases aroma then add mustard and cumin seeds.
  • When done add green chilies and curry leaves and saute till releases a nice aroma and dal turns a brown color.
  • Then add Turmeric Powder and mix well.
  •  Now add sesame green chili mixed rice along with remaining sesame seeds and mix well.
  • Cook for only 2 minutes.
  • Don't overcook it. Finally, add coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve hot alone or with omelet or papad and enjoy.

Detail Photo Recipe Of Amla Rice
